Meet Simpool
Driven by the rise of mobile gaming and increased in-game purchases, the gaming industry has seen profits soar over the last decade. Game developers make daily in-app optimizations to personalize content and experiences for users. They rely on A/B testing to understand optimization effects, but A/B testing has disadvantages: it's slow, not entirely accurate and doesn't account for a wide variety of scenarios. Simpool's simulation-as-a-service platform helps game developers quickly predict whether planned optimizations will be successful.
The Challenge
As a small startup in the gaming industry, Simpool needed to manage run-rate carefully while scaling their simulation-as-a-service platform. EC2 represented a major chunk of their cloud bill, but they couldn't predict usage patterns or dedicate time to cost optimization. They needed Savings Plans benefits without the commitment risk or management overhead.
The Solution
Simpool implemented Flexsave for Compute to automatically manage Savings Plans while maintaining on-demand elasticity. DoiT handles all overhead management, adjusting Savings Plans coverage based on usage patterns and absorbing underutilization costs. This allows Simpool to achieve discounted rates without purchasing or managing Savings Plans themselves.
