questions
What do I need to connect Datadog?
A custom role, a service account with an application key, an API key and your parent org region, all entered in a step-by-step wizard. If you have Datadog commitments, you also add their quantities and prices.
Which Datadog permissions are required?
The application key needs the billing_read and usage_read scopes. hosts_read and dashboards_read are optional and unlock host costs and dashboard popularity.
How much history do you import?
We import the last six months of billing and usage data on connect, and keep history beyond Datadog's own two-month API window for as long as you stay connected. Usage data is hourly; host costs update once a day.
How are commitments handled?
Each charge is tagged with a cost type of usage or commitment. You enter your committed quantities and prices during setup and update them whenever your Datadog contract changes, so costs stay accurate.
Can I break costs down by tag or host?
Yes. Datadog tags appear under Labels & Tags in Cloud Analytics, and system labels cover product family, host name, agent version and dashboards. Tag-based Usage Attribution reports require Datadog Enterprise.
Are there accounts that can't connect?
Datadog bought through a reseller or a cloud marketplace can't be connected. Child orgs in a multi-org account need the Datadog Admin role in the parent org.
