Meet Aniview

With its proprietary and patented mobile video technology, Aniview offers publishers and advertising agencies a full ecosystem that delivers video ads on any platform and generates valuable insights for tracking, measuring, and analyzing performance. Founded in 2013, Aniview has expanded rapidly, managing more than 100 billion video events a day from offices in Tel Aviv, New York, and Los Angeles. As the platform grew, server strain increased, and by 2016, the company needed to redesign its data warehousing architecture to continue working at scale while maintaining low latency for clients.

The Challenge

By 2016, Aniview was handling petabytes of data and database queries that were slowing down due to scale. The company needed to redesign its data warehousing architecture to continue working at scale while maintaining low latency for clients in a competitive market with tight margins.

The Solution

Aniview chose Google Cloud with BigQuery at the heart of a new serverless data analytics approach. The solution included Google App Engine for scalable architecture, Cloud Dataflow and Cloud Dataproc for data processing, combined with Google Cloud's networking power to run massive queries with ease.

Results

  • Reduced data platform costs by more than 70% compared to previous solution
  • Query tens of billions of rows in seconds that were previously impossible to explore
  • Enabled real-time performance metrics and unprecedented scale data analysis
  • Distributed raw performance data to clients for custom tool creation

We have to process, aggregate, and explore petabytes of data to provide insight for our customers. With limited resources in a competitive industry, this is very challenging. We had to think outside the box, so we looked at Google Cloud and DoiT International.

Roy Cohen, CTO

Transformative Results

Google BigQuery helped Aniview completely transform its data analytics offering. The company reduced data platform costs by more than 70% compared to its previous solution. Google's serverless environment and scaling ability meant Aniview could ramp up compute power as needed and query huge datasets in seconds. The new platform was so powerful it could provide real-time performance metrics and analyze past data on unprecedented scale, generating insights that weren't possible before.

New Capabilities Unlocked

Aniview can now explore three months of data with more than 20 dimensions, generating aggregated reports with tens of billions of rows that were previously impossible to probe. The ease of use of Google BigQuery enabled Aniview to distribute raw performance data to clients and help them create custom tools. Beyond cost savings and performance gains, Google Cloud helped Aniview focus on core products and deliver the best solutions to customers.

Looking Forward

With migration completed, Aniview is exploring new ways to enhance products with Google solutions. The Google suite of machine learning tools could help automate processes and enable systems to react dynamically to changing conditions rather than relying on programmed rules. As Aniview continues growing and improving services, the company can rely on Google to keep evolving and provide the platform needed for the future.
