PPC Samurai Cuts Latency 50% on Google Cloud

DoiT guided the migration from a legacy data center to GKE and Cloud SQL, unlocking 99.95% availability and halved CPU needs.

Meet PPC Samurai

PPC Samurai provides a workflow management platform powered by Google Cloud that helps digital agencies automate routine PPC tasks. The platform enables digital marketers to build and execute PPC workflows without coding skills, integrating ad performance data from search engines like Google Ads into client dashboards using Cloud SQL.

The Challenge

PPC Samurai faced latency problems with users outside Europe routed through their France-based data center. The legacy environment lacked scalable storage, frequently ran out of disk space, and risked critical downtime. The company needed better visibility into database performance issues and faster provisioning of compute resources.

The Solution

PPC Samurai migrated to Google Cloud with DoiT's support for Cloud SQL migration and instance sizing. They implemented Cloud Load Balancing to divert traffic between EU and US regions, deployed on Google Kubernetes Engine for zero-downtime rolling deployments, and used Cloud SQL Insights to optimize database performance.

Results

  • Reduced latency from 400 milliseconds to 200 milliseconds for faster PPC workflow automation
  • Decreased CPU requirements by 50% using Cloud SQL Insights for query optimization
  • Achieved 99.95% application availability with zero-downtime deployments on GKE
  • Scaled services on-demand instead of waiting two weeks for physical server provisioning

DoiT helped us solve several issues relating to sizing and migrating instances. Whenever we had issues come up, the team would be quick to respond. Having a support partner on hand gives us the added confidence to resolve critical issues quickly.

Dean Povey, Chief Technology Officer, PPC Samurai

Scaling paid search automation for effective search campaigns

PPC Samurai migrated from a France-based data center to Google Cloud to resolve latency issues for global users. By applying Cloud Load Balancing between EU and US regions, they reduced worst-case latency from 400ms to 200ms. Rolling deployments on Google Kubernetes Engine eliminated five-minute downtimes, achieving 99.95% application availability.

Managing app performance for customers

PPC Samurai participated in Google Cloud for Startups and used credits to deploy a test cluster. The consistent Google Cloud experience, from UI to API support, convinced them to migrate. They use Cloud Logging and Cloud Monitoring for proactive bug detection and alerting policies to maintain smooth operations.

Keeping data up to date for ad performance insights

PPC Samurai uses Cloud SQL to update and process data from platforms like Google Ads by 6 AM daily, providing fresh insights for digital agencies. The platform stores historic data for up to three years and uses Cloud SQL Insights to identify performance issues, reducing CPU requirements by 50%.

What's next: AI takes marketing automation to the next level

PPC Samurai plans to revamp its architecture as a single-page application by end of 2021 to improve page load times. They're exploring Google Cloud AI tools to build PPC forecasts and predictions, combining human intelligence with marketing automation for better search campaign results.
