New in Allocations: Automatically create groups from tag and label values
Pick a source dimension and let allocation groups build themselves, one per distinct value.

Managing cost allocations across a growing environment usually means writing one rule per tag value and keeping them in sync by hand. When your "team" tag goes from five values to fifty, that's fifty rules to maintain.
The new value extraction feature takes a different approach. You pick a source dimension: a tag, a label, or a fixed dimension like region or cluster. One group is then created for each distinct value, automatically.
- Automatic group creation: Choose a tag or label as your source, and one allocation group appears per distinct value. New values in your data generate new groups with no manual work.
- Flexible fallback handling: Define what happens when the source is missing on a cost line: use a fallback value, or move on to the next rule.
- Multiple extraction sources: Pull values from labels, tags, fixed dimensions (region, project, service, cluster), or GKE labels. Chain several sources as a fallback sequence.
- Full API support: Create, read, and update extraction-based allocations through the API, so you can manage allocations as code or automate bulk migrations.
Extracted groups work on historical data, not just future ingestion, and behave like normal allocation groups everywhere: reports, filters, budgets, and alerts.
To get started, open Allocations in the Cloud Intelligence™ console and add a value extraction rule to any allocation.
