Connect AWS Billing Transfer accounts without touching customer management accounts

Onboard your distributor account, map resellers and end customers, and get billing data flowing for transferred AWS accounts, without access to your customers' management accounts.

By Sam Clark

Distributors can now onboard their AWS Billing Transfer accounts with a short wizard, and resellers map end customers in a table they confirm. Billing data follows the mapping, and nobody needs access to a customer's management account.

AWS Billing Transfer moves a partner's AWS bill into a single management account while customers keep ownership of their own accounts. That simplifies billing on the AWS side. On ours, each transferred account still had to be connected to the right reseller and the right customer, and doing that by hand doesn't scale.

How it works

  • Onboard your distributor account: Distributors register each Distributor Program Management Account (DPMA) with a two-step wizard. Enter the S3 bucket that holds your Cost and Usage Report (CUR) data, deploy the CloudFormation stack in AWS, and PartnerOps picks up the deployment on its own, usually within a few minutes.
  • Map resellers: Link each Reseller Program Management Account (RPMA) to the matching reseller tenant. Billing data flows once the link exists.
  • Map end customers: Resellers map each end customer account that has accepted its transfer to the right end customer tenant. Mapping is a PartnerOps operation only. It triggers nothing on the AWS side, and nobody needs access to the customer's management account.
  • Confirm suggested matches: Both mapping steps suggest pairings when an account looks like an existing tenant. You accept or dismiss each one, and nothing is applied until you confirm.
  • Track progress: The RPMAs page shows each account's status and how far mapping has progressed, so you can see what still needs attention.

Get started

  1. Read the AWS Billing Transfer overview for prerequisites. The Billing Transfer relationship has to be set up in AWS first.
  2. Distributors: onboard your DPMA, then map your resellers.
  3. Resellers: map your end customers. You need the Billing Transfer Admin permission to add or change mappings.

Available to distributors and resellers using PartnerOps Revenue Management.
