DoiT brachte Wondermall auf Google App Engine, Compute Engine und BigQuery, um die iPad-Mall automatisch zu skalieren und Abfragezeiten von Stunden auf Sekunden zu drücken.
Wondermall brauchte eine skalierbare, robuste und effiziente Cloud-Infrastruktur als Fundament des Geschäfts. Gefragt war eine "DevOps-lose" Infrastruktur, die Load Balancer, Firewalls, Auto-Scaler und Datenbanken eigenständig betreibt – damit sich das Team voll auf Software-Engineering und den Aufbau des Unternehmens konzentrieren kann. Gleichzeitig sollte die Plattform flexibel genug für gängige Open-Source-Lösungen sein und eine Datenanalyse im großen Maßstab ermöglichen, die Zahlen schnell verarbeitet.
Wondermall entschied sich für Google App Engine, um über 100 große Commerce-Sites zu scrapen und Produkte in den Katalog aufzunehmen. Google Compute Engine betreibt die ElasticSearch-Cluster, Google BigQuery sammelt und analysiert Tausende Datensätze pro Sekunde. Diese Kombination macht DevOps-Management überflüssig und liefert gleichzeitig automatische Skalierung, Load Balancing und schnelle Datenanalysen.

Wondermall ist eine iPad-App, die Produkte aus Hunderten Shops in einer mobilen Mall bündelt. Seit der Gründung 2012 kooperiert Wondermall mit über 200 Händlern wie Macy's, Gap und Forever21 und ermöglicht es, Artikel und Preise shopübergreifend zu vergleichen.

Nicht zuletzt war eine Plattform für großvolumige Datenanalysen, die Zahlen im Handumdrehen verarbeitet, eine zentrale Anforderung.
Um schnell zu entwickeln und den Fokus auf Innovation zu legen, setzte Wondermall auf Google App Engine, um über 100 große Commerce-Sites zu scrapen und Produkte in den Wondermall-Katalog aufzunehmen. App Engine verwaltet die Verbindungen, skaliert Instanzen automatisch, verteilt die Last und skaliert sogar die Cloud-Datastore-Datenbank automatisch mit. Über die Click-to-Deploy-Oberfläche von Google betreibt Wondermall ElasticSearch auf Google Compute Engine – Cluster mit Shards, Replikation und SSD-Disks für schnelle IO stehen in wenigen Minuten bereit. Pro Sekunde erfasst Wondermall Tausende Datensätze und legt sie in Google BigQuery ab, wo sich Terabytes an Daten in Sekunden per Standard-SQL abfragen lassen.
Dank App Engine, Compute Engine und BigQuery kann sich Wondermall ganz auf Produkte und Kunden konzentrieren, statt auf Server, Storage und Netzwerk. Themen wie Server-Redundanz, Datenreplikation, Peering, USV, Kühlung, Anwendungsskalierung oder Daten-Backups fallen schlicht weg. Auf Basis der Daten aus BigQuery baut das Team interne Dashboards über eine schlanke RESTful-API.
