Recurly taglia del 15% i tempi di risposta con Google Cloud

DoiT ha guidato Recurly nella migrazione da on-premise a Google Kubernetes Engine, sbloccando una scalabilità PCI-compliant e un provisioning degli ambienti più rapido.

The Challenge

Recurly doveva migrare l'infrastruttura core dall'hardware on-premise al cloud. Per ragioni di sicurezza, i servizi di elaborazione dei pagamenti giravano on-premise: ciò costringeva i team a spostarsi fisicamente nei data center per gli interventi manuali. La leadership dell'azienda voleva eliminare l'infrastruttura on-premise per liberare i team IT e lasciarli liberi di innovare.

The Solution

Recurly ha scelto Google Kubernetes Engine, l'unica soluzione Kubernetes completamente gestita e PCI-compliant disponibile sul mercato. L'azienda ha adottato Google Cloud Platform con un accesso semplificato alle risorse di calcolo on-demand tramite GKE e Compute Engine. Ha inoltre implementato Cloud IAM per la gestione degli accessi, Cloud Pub/Sub per l'elaborazione asincrona e Stackdriver per la gestione dei log.

La sfida

Per stare al passo con le esigenze dei clienti, Recurly doveva migrare l'infrastruttura core dall'hardware on-premise al cloud. La soluzione

Dopo i primi test, è emerso che Google Kubernetes Engine era la soluzione più adatta a raggiungere gli obiettivi, in quanto unica piattaforma Kubernetes completamente gestita e PCI-compliant disponibile. Google Cloud ha permesso a Recurly di superare le sfide legate alla scalabilità, garantendo un accesso semplificato alle risorse di calcolo on-demand tramite Google Kubernetes Engine e Compute Engine.

Più produttività e scalabilità

Al momento del deploy dell'ambiente di produzione, Recurly ha scalato il cluster da sei a 36 nodi in un paio di minuti: con il provider precedente sarebbero servite ore. Uno scaling più rapido e lineare consente all'azienda di attivare nuovi ambienti in una settimana invece dei mesi necessari in passato, con un time-to-market dei servizi nettamente più veloce.

Gestione degli accessi e sicurezza migliorate

Recurly ha sfruttato Cloud Identity and Access Management per superare le criticità legate al controllo degli accessi. Gestendo gli accessi alle risorse cloud tramite Cloud IAM, l'azienda può concedere ai developer permessi di lettura fino all'ambiente di produzione, lasciando il team di engineering libero di concentrarsi sull'innovazione anziché su verifiche e attività di routine. L'azienda si affida inoltre a Cloud Pub/Sub per l'elaborazione asincrona e a Stackdriver per la gestione dei log.
