Hey everyone, Craig Lowell from DoiT here to talk about one of the more repetitive and tedious tasks faced by cloud operations teams, S3 Lifecycle Policy Maintenance, and how you can save countless hours by automating it with Cloudflow. If you've spent any time managing s three, you probably know that when a multi part upload is initiated but never completed, AWS keeps charging you for the storage indefinitely. The fix involves creating a rule that applies to all of your s three buckets that don't already have it, and which automatically aborts incomplete uploads after a set number of days. The problem is that not only do most buckets not have one, but identifying which ones are missing this rule is tedious, time consuming, and a poor use of engineering time. To do this in the AWS console, you have to open up each bucket individually, of which there could be hundreds or even thousands, and first check to see if the rule exists. If it doesn't, you have to create it manually, and then repeat that process for every single bucket in your account. That's exactly the kind of task that Cloudflow was built to simplify. With Cloudflow, you can locate all S3 buckets missing a multi part cleanup rule, apply a consistent policy, and generate a report, all from a single prompt. First, set a scheduled trigger for the time and cadence you want the Cloudflow to run. Then, using Cloudflow's API functionality, get the full list of S3 buckets in your connected AWS account. From the buckets listed, you can then fetch their lifecycle configuration rules, and create a filter node to find all buckets that are missing the required rule. Then use another AWS API action to apply the new rule to all filtered buckets. And finally, create a notification step to document the change and keep all stakeholders informed. As with any other cloud flow, any one of these steps can also have an approval requirement included, ensuring that no actions are taken without proper authorization of your key stakeholders. And the best part is that this process can be repeated on a regular cadence, ensuring that all newly created S3 buckets will have the proper lifecycle configuration without having to manually inspect them. Just clean, optimized storage in a few seconds. So whether you're tackling specific savings opportunities or standardizing your broader cloud hygiene, Cloudflow makes it easy to take action without slowing your team down. Thanks for watching.
