Building reliable cloud infrastructure with DoiT’s expertise
When LogiCommerce began working with DoiT in 2023, its main priority was to migrate its MySQL database securely to the latest version, without any interruption or negative impact to the service. DoiT Cloud Reliability Engineers (CREs) worked with LogiCommerce to identify potential problems that could arise with the migration. As LogiCommerce was a heavy user of MySQL, storing a large amount of data, DoiT recommended using blue-green deployments to reduce disruption by keeping downtime to a minimum, while lowering risk by making it easy to quickly rollback to a previous version in the event of any problems. With DoiT’s support, LogiCommerce was able to continue offering its services without interruption throughout the migration.
LogiCommerce is now working with DoiT to develop its disaster recovery strategy, helping the company to define its goals, consider its options, and ensure that its plan best balances recovery time and costs.
“Partnering with DoiT allowed us to accelerate the development of our disaster recovery strategy” Xavier explains. “Their expertise complemented our efforts and saved us valuable time. DoiT has been supporting us from the very beginning and will continue until the day that it’s implemented. Without a clear idea of what to do, it’s a very big mountain to climb. DoiT makes it easy for us to find a way up.”
Making informed product decisions with the support of DoiT CREs
As well as technical support, DoiT CREs have provided LogiCommerce with advice and consultancy, guiding the company through its decision to start using Datadog to improve the logging and monitoring of its systems. “DoiT CREs provided a lot of consultations around how we might benefit from Datadog, and the best approach to implement it. They really helped us to make an informed decision” says Xavier.
Identifying and controlling spiking costs
LogiCommerce has also worked closely with DoiT to reconfigure its cloud usage, ensuring it is cost-efficient. In particular, DoiT supported LogiCommerce in identifying why it was previously spending so much on its internet traffic and how it could reduce its expenses. DoiT CREs realized that LogiCommerce had a large amount of interregional traffic, which was running up costs.
“We didn’t know exactly why we had this traffic, what the benefits were, or how we could reduce the costs” Xavier recalls. “DoiT explained how AWS charges for traffic and recommended that we put all our critical services into two zones and all the other services in another. Doing this drastically reduced the amount of interregional traffic, along with our costs.”
DoiT also determined that another cause of LogiCommerce’s spiking traffic costs resulted from the traffic passing through its NAT gateway between its private network and the internet. After analyzing LogiCommerce’s infrastructure and logs, DoiT advised it on how to reconfigure its Elastic Load Balancing service to distribute its traffic in a cost-efficient way.
Reducing overall cloud expenditure with ongoing consultations
LogiCommerce also regularly uses Cloud Analytics in DoiT Cloud Intelligence™ to manage its cloud costs, setting budget thresholds for various workloads and projects and receiving alerts if exceeded. Xavier’s team then analyzes and addresses the issue, turning to DoiT for support as necessary.
At the same time, DoiT remains abreast of LogiCommerce’s ongoing expenditure and provides biweekly catch-ups to review its cloud usage. “DoiT is constantly monitoring the cost of the platform and providing suggestions to increase its cost efficiency. It’s a very useful ongoing arrangement” says Xavier.
LogiCommerce has also implemented DoiT Flexsave™. This solution uses machine learning to identify the company’s AWS EC2 compute instances that are not already benefiting from discounted rates, and automatically apply discounted rates to those workloads. As a result, LogiCommerce has been able to further reduce its cloud expenditure.
