Securing discounted rates for fluctuating workloads
Understanding Launchmetrics’ need to control its cloud costs in the face of unpredictable workloads, DoiT recommended DoiT DoiT Flexsave™ for Compute. With the help of machine learning, DoiT Flexsave™ for Compute identifies which of Launchmetrics’ EC2 compute instances are not already covered by discounts, and automatically applies discount rates, significantly reducing Launchmetrics’ on-demand costs.
“Despite strategically managing our compute usage, we nevertheless missed out on discounts for up to 30% of our workloads. With DoiT Flexsave™ for Compute, we can now dynamically adjust our compute usage while securing reduced rates for nearly all our workloads,” says Pau. “DoiT takes care of the process seamlessly, allowing us to focus on our core objectives and better help our clients.”
Unblocking negotiations to sign a new three-year contract
DoiT then supported Launchmetrics in negotiations over its new three-year EDP. Leveraging its official partnership with AWS, DoiT worked together with the cloud provider to find the most suitable pricing plan for Launchmetrics, and its finance team in particular, enabling Launchmetrics to finalize the new contract with ease.
“We had a real block in negotiations,” Pau recalls. “Then DoiT appeared with this new approach and unlocked the negotiation. Within two weeks, we had signed.”
DoiT also supported Launchmetrics with the procurement of Google Workspace, using its access to volume pricing as a Google Cloud partner to secure credits to use Workspace at a preferential rate.
Understanding and managing cloud costs with the DoiT console
With the DoiT console, Launchmetrics now has access to Cloud Analytics to visualize its cloud spend in detail, generate reports, and manage costs. For example, Launchmetrics has a report to track its EDP expenditure to ensure it’s meeting its contracted usage commitments. This allows the company to make any necessary adjustments promptly, rather than adjusting its usage all at once.
Launchmetrics has also implemented Anomaly Detection to automatically monitor its cloud consumption and alert it of unexpected cost surges, dramatically reducing the number of false alerts.
“The big difference is that every time we receive an alert from DoiT, it’s a real anomaly and I know the team has to look into it,” Pau explains. “Now instead of wasting time looking into false positives, I can concentrate on developing services for our customers.”
When necessary, Launchmetrics consults with DoiT’s Cloud Reliability Engineers (CREs) to diagnose and resolve anomalies. For instance, when unexpected price surges occurred with Amazon S3 cloud storage, a DoiT CRE quickly identified an unusually high number of requests as the cause. By implementing the CRE’s recommendations, Launchmetrics efficiently reduced the number of requests and stabilized costs within just two days.
Exploring the best way to cloud with DoiT expertise
Launchmetrics and DoiT check in biweekly to discuss issues, seek advice on using new cloud services, and gain support on new projects. When Launchmetrics wanted to use Amazon Kendra to develop an internal GenAI chatbot to improve efficiency, DoiT explained how the service works and how to use it effectively.
“These direct discussions save us a significant amount of time by enabling us to focus directly on critical issues,” says Pau. “DoiT provides clear explanations of our options, detailing the advantages and disadvantages of various products and services. Together, we can determine the optimal approach.”
DoiT then secured credits for Launchmetrics to use Kendra, saving the company money as it developed its proof of concept. The chatbot is now in production.
