Monta: Optimizing the future of EV charging infrastructure with DoiT

Meet Monta

Monta is a Denmark-founded SaaS company that delivers a comprehensive Charge Point Management System (CPMS) for EV infrastructure owners and operators. Its platform integrates remote IoT device management, real-time power control, payments, and consumer-facing mobile applications across public, semi-public, and residential charging use cases. With operations in 10 markets across Europe and North America, Monta manages over 250,000 EV charge points globally.

The Challenge

As Monta rapidly scaled across geographies and customer segments, from utilities and logistics to gas stations and real estate owners, its cloud architecture had to meet three critical demands: high uptime, real-time responsiveness, and rigorous compliance. The platform supports low-latency power control and grid stabilization, where downtime leads to immediate revenue loss for Monta along with its end customers. With simultaneous exposure to energy, financial, and mobility regulations, Monta’s FinOps practice had to deliver cost control, financial transparency, and platform efficiency at pace. As Monta scaled, its increasing ability to forecast infrastructure costs accurately became essential for estimating funding runway and planning engineering capacity.

The Solution

Monta leverages DoiT Cloud Intelligence™ to align its cloud usage with business performance, using tools that bridge engineering and finance. By integrating Flexsave for compute cost optimization and Budgets for cost per active charge point, Monta tracks cost per connected asset as a primary KPI. Monta’s engineering leaders use reports and metrics to uncover inefficiencies, validate optimizations, and translate infrastructure spend into actionable insights. Real-time observability is enriched through Grafana telemetry, while Snowflake Intelligence and Anthropic AI are being adopted to expand forecasting precision.

The result is a tight feedback loop: the discovery, implementation, and validation of cost-optimization measures across the cloud infrastructure, which is critical for scaling grid-facing applications, financial transaction systems, and mobile user experiences across various connectivity environments. Together with DoiT’s built-in forecasting and budgeting tools, these more fine-grained capabilities provide Monta with a comprehensive view of future spend, critical for aligning infrastructure scale with business growth and financial planning.

To extend FinOps visibility beyond cloud-native spend, Monta is beginning to adopt DataHub, a centralized cost integration solution that ingests third-party and non-cloud vendor billing data into DoiT Cloud Intelligence. This will enable Monta’s finance teams to view and analyze total platform cost in one place, breaking silos between infrastructure and financial teams. As new services are deployed across a growing vendor stack, DataHub will help ensure cohesive, organization-wide visibility into platform economics.

The Results

With DoiT Cloud Intelligence, Monta has increased platform efficiency and cost transparency, supporting monthly FinOps reporting and long-range forecasting aligned to the growth of IoT-connected EV assets. The solution has empowered Monta’s engineering and Senior Leadership to drive cost accountability across teams, enabling consistent KPI-driven optimization cycles. Flexible access to cloud experts has accelerated the adoption of new AWS capabilities and surfaced actionable opportunities for optimization.

In part due to its FinOps maturity, Monta has also strengthened its ability to forecast cloud usage with confidence. This improved predictability has enabled the company to align infrastructure demand with business growth and pursue more favorable net benefits. As cloud predictability becomes central to both cost control and agility, Monta is well-positioned to scale responsibly and sustainably, in function of key business metrics (such as active charge points under management).

What's Next?

Monta is expanding its FinOps collaboration by integrating cost data from additional vendors through DataHub, making cost insights more inclusive for finance teams. As Monta builds new infrastructure to support features like vehicle-to-grid and dynamic residential pricing, the company is leveraging DoiT to de-risk architectural decisions and plan confidently for scaling energy and payment services through Monta CPMS.

Jesper Terkelsen, CTO at Monta
“When we started working with DoiT, we deployed Flexsave to save time and reduce complexity. We still use it today. But what really stands out is the expert support. Having someone to collaborate with on deep cloud cost topics, someone who really understands the nuances, is incredibly valuable.”
