Last year, many RDS MySQL customers were forced into a major version migration of MySQL 5.6 to MySQL 5.7 due to end-of-life support and availability of this version.

We saw many instances of customers not being ready or planning accordingly for this forced migration, and feeling a whole lot of pain as a result. In the upcoming months, RDS MySQL customers will be forced into another major version migration of MySQL 5.7 to MySQL 8.0 as MySQL 5.7 has reached end-of-life. This migration is even more impactful to customer application and business continuity.
